Back to my roots

I feel like I've been a little bit unfaithful to my love for hip-hop throughout this blog so this post is dedicated to a few tracks that have featured heavily in my musical education, and a few newer ones that I'm liking.

Lowkey & Doc Brown - 'Donnie's Lament (Mad World Remix)'
My number 1 UK tune. The second verse by Lowkey is unbelievable...and I can totally sympathise with what he's talking about - coming from a completely deprived background and suffering a shit education. It really sucks.

Big Daddy Kane - 'Ain't No Half Steppin'
And my number 1 US Rhyme

Foreign Beggars -'Glacial'
These guys came to perform at my school, which was a pretty strange experience. A lot of posh twats, hands in the air, doing the whole 8-mile thing for some London rudebowys. Surreal but completely unforgettable.

Roots Manuva & Charlie Tuna - 'Join the Dots'
"No Sir, Mr Tuna, I can't burn your blunt
I remember the last time and how i got crunk.."

Ice Cube - 'It Was A Good Day'
The only video I could get for this one is connected to another track 'Check Yo Self', which is also good but wasn't intended to make it on my list..

Krate Krusaders feat. Dominique Larue - 'That Ain't My Style'
I'm not a sexist, I just don't think there are many good female rappers out there. This one makes the grade however

Life - 'Moviedrome'
Every lyric in this track is derived from the title of a film. Even if you're not a hip-hop fan you've got to respect this guy's ability to play with words. Have a listen and be astounded. He's clever as hell.

Jehst - 'Nighttime Vultures'

Cut Chemist feat. Hymnal - 'What's the Altitude'

Afu-Ra feat. KY-Mani - 'Equality'

And one that's just plain funny from Doc Brown
